Arts Council Funding Awarded

01 October 2011

‘12 Months of Neon Love’ is a public art project by Victoria Lucas and Richard William Wheater, which began on St Valentines Day 2011. Twelve lyrics from well-known love songs are transposed to large red neon text and displayed in a monthly sequence on the roof of Wakefield’s Neon Workshops. A specially-constructed steel framework means the neon is visible from miles around, but notably from the busy local and national rail network.

The Arts Council grant awarded will help to fund the remaining installations and document the project in the form of a publication, which will be launched in Spring 2012. It will also provide funds to assist the artists in marketing and publicising the artwork, which is due to end on the 14th of February.
