Hepworth Plasters

This month I was back at the Hepworth Gallery delivering a mouldmaking and casting workshop in response to Barbara Hepworth's plasters.

After a tour around the gallery, in which the different processes and techniques employed by Hepworth were explained, two activities were initiated in the studio with the group. Participants created Hepworth style plaster casts using negative space as a starting point, as demonstrated in Hepworth's sculpture 'Three Hemispheres' (1967). They then learnt how to use a material called Alginate to cast their hands.
