Standpoint, 2020. Live Networked Performance.
Seven women situated across the UK are brought together virtually in a time of isolation. Through their labour, earth is carved, clawed, shovelled, carried, dropped, sculpted, reshaped and reformed with implements and bare hands. This collective act is a defiant reclamation of the British rural landscape and its history. Each mound of earth extracted from the land sits both as part of and in opposition to its surroundings as a discursive space of feminist revisioning.
Standpoint (2020) was orchestrated live as part of the Art and the Rural Imagination conference, organised and presented by More Than Ponies in partnership with Arts University Bournemouth. Standpoint (2020) was one of four micro-commissions selected as part of a physical programme of events, which was subsequently cancelled due to the pandemic, and then reconvened as a slow conference online.
